Sandra Jiménez Bauló Person with obsessive-compulsive disorder

"Intrusive thoughts entered my mind like missiles."

Sandra Jiménez

OCD entered Sandra Jiménez's life ten years ago and completely turned it upside down. Now, after six years of "a long and painful journey," she can say that she feels fully recovered, with peace of mind and a fulfilling life.

In this testimony, Sandra explains all the suffering caused by obsessive-compulsive disorder, which erupted during a period of intense stress at work and ended up taking over her daily life. "I had more and more intrusive thoughts that entered my mind like missiles, catastrophic thoughts that generated a lot of anguish and anxiety ," she tells us. And then came the rituals, the fear, the lack of understanding, and the loneliness.

When she was diagnosed with OCD , she felt relieved: "If I have a disorder, there will be a treatment to help me." And indeed, with medication and therapy, she gradually dismantled the life the disorder had created without her consent and built another in which she has learned to live without suffering.

Sandra states emphatically that if she could go back in time she wouldn't like to have OCD, but what she does like is "having been able to turn a nightmare into a learning experience."
