Ten principles of good practices on promoting self-esteem and body image in social media and advertising

This document aims to promote the physical and mental health of the population and prevent the onset and development of eating disorders. It outlines ten principles of good practice in social media and advertising:

  1. Promote a diversity of realistic body images that encourage health.
  2. Promote body diversity and respect it as a fact and an asset.
  3. Avoid promoting risky behaviors and unhealthy diets.
  4. Promote healthy lifestyles and eating habits, avoiding the spread of false beliefs.
  5. To boost people's self-esteem beyond their physical appearance.
  6. Reject unrealistic aesthetic ideals that put people's health at risk.
  7. Protecting children, during restricted hours, from messages that are contrary to healthy lifestyles.
  8. Pay special attention to the health of the adolescent population, because they are the group most likely to feel dissatisfied with their bodies.
  9. Combat the saturation of messages aimed at women that cause body dissatisfaction
  10. Show sensitivity and rigor in the treatment, by the media, of eating disorders.
