Salud Mental y Trabajo. Evolución 1981-2023 y propuestas preventivas en el entorno laboral

This document describes the recent evolution, current situation, framework for action, and tools for addressing mental health in relation to paid work. To this end, a synthesis of the main published evidence on mental health in the workplace has been compiled. The approach taken by various international organizations (WHO, ILO, European Commission) and the Spanish Government (Strategies and Action Plans) is described, along with the main actions and/or milestones achieved in the workplace, as well as the economic costs arising from potentially preventable mental health conditions.

The report also analyzes the most frequent mental health problems in the workplace, especially those with a recognized work-related origin, such as work-related stress, burnout, workplace harassment, and post-traumatic stress. It examines the return to work after prolonged leave due to mental health problems and the reintegration into the workforce of individuals facing these challenges, exploring preventive measures and workplace adaptations in this context. Finally, the report compiles action plans to help promote mental well-being and prevent mental health problems in the workplace.
