QualityRights Training: Person-Centered Recovery Planning for Mental Health and Wellbeing

The World Health Organization's (WHO) QualityRights initiative aims to improve the quality of care and support provided in social and mental health services, and to promote the human rights of people with psychosocial, intellectual or cognitive disabilities worldwide.

The training and guidance modules of the QualityRights initiative aim to increase knowledge, skills and understanding among key stakeholders on how to promote the rights of people with psychosocial, intellectual or cognitive disabilities, as well as improve the quality of services and support provided in the field of mental health and other related areas, in line with international human rights standards and, in particular, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the recovery approach.

This module guides people through the process of creating a recovery plan. The tool is designed to be used both independently and collaboratively. For example, it can be used as a framework for dialogue and discussion between service users and professionals or other support workers.

The self-help tool begins by explaining what recovery is and what it means in people's lives. It then invites users to identify their dreams and goals, teaches them how to create a wellness plan, and helps them plan in advance how to act during difficult times or crises on their journey to recovery. Anyone using this self-help tool will engage in a series of self-reflection exercises that will encourage them to understand themselves and leverage the support of their network.
