QualityRights Training: Mental health, disability and human rights
The World Health Organization's (WHO) QualityRights initiative aims to improve the quality of care and support provided in social and mental health services, and to promote the human rights of people with psychosocial, intellectual or cognitive disabilities worldwide.
The training and guidance modules of the QualityRights initiative aim to increase knowledge, skills and understanding among key stakeholders on how to promote the rights of people with psychosocial, intellectual or cognitive disabilities, as well as improve the quality of services and support provided in the field of mental health and other related areas, in line with international human rights standards and, in particular, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the recovery approach.
This module This report analyzes in detail the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) regarding the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with psychosocial, intellectual, or cognitive disabilities. The Convention was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly at the end of 2006 and entered into force in May 2008, sixty years after the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). As of November 2018, the Convention had 177 States Parties.
This module expands upon the broader human rights training provided in Module 1 and focuses specifically on internationally ratified human rights that address the needs of people with disabilities. It enables participants to view disability from a human rights perspective, examining the barriers to full inclusion that people with disabilities face in society and identifying ways to overcome them.
