Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment

A United Nations instrument supplementing the United Nations Convention against Torture, whose main purpose is to promote the prevention of torture and ill-treatment in places of detention. It offers a new perspective based on the idea that the more open and transparent places of detention are, the fewer abuses will occur there.
