Lack of menstruation

Why do bones become brittle if we don't menstruate?

Bones need calcium to maintain their strength and internal structure. Menstrual hormones, specifically estrogens, which trigger bleeding, create the right environment for the calcium absorbed from food to be used by the bones, with the help of vitamin D, which is activated by sunlight. Simply consuming calcium in the diet, no matter how rich or fortified certain products may be, is not enough; sunlight and hormones are also necessary.

For this reason, if there is an absence of menstruation for a long time, the bones end up becoming decalcified and there is a risk of suffering bone fractures at an early age.
