Eating disorder

What warning signs of an eating disorder can be detected in the classroom?

It is very important to keep in mind that the warning signs of an eating disorder vary from person to person. Typically, a change in academic performance may be observed, with a decrease in grades or an increase in hours spent studying, along with increased worry , perfectionism , demandingness, and expressions of dissatisfaction or insecurity.

This alteration can also be observed through the abandonment of tasks and responsibilities and difficulties in working in groups or concentrating.

Regarding social relationships, conflicts may arise with those around them, irritability may increase, or they may resort to lying. There is a tendency to isolate themselves and distance themselves from friends or peers.

In dining areas, at lunchtime or on an outing, a child's preoccupation with food may be noticeable, such as avoiding eating in company, finding hidden food scraps, or exhibiting strange behaviors at mealtimes like crumbling or excessively manipulating food.
