Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
What signs can alert us that a child has inattentive ADHD?
Some symptoms that may make us suspect are:
- They miss important details of the information they read or hear, as if they had memory difficulties;
- They require more time to grasp the information, that is, they take longer to process what is explained to them;
- They lose track of the explanations;
- They seem to be paying attention, but when asked, they have not understood or cannot express the main idea;
- When they have more time, they can develop answers that are surprisingly effective;
- They make mistakes in performing mechanical tasks, such as mathematical operations or spelling, due to lack of attention (for example, not noticing the operation sign or forgetting accents) and may have variable performance (feeling that one day they know how to do something and the next day they don't); among others.
If you observe any of these symptoms in your son or daughter or students, it is important to consult with a specialist who can evaluate and confirm or rule out the presence of inattentive ADHD, before it continues to go unnoticed and has negative repercussions.
