Suicide prevention
What should we never say to a person who wants to commit suicide?
We must avoid saying anything that invalidates or worsens the person's suffering, that poses or is understood as a challenge, that does not take them seriously, or that is a problem for their loved ones.
Some of the things we shouldn't say to him are:
- He just wants attention.
- Don't talk nonsense.
- If he wants to do it, he should do it properly, but he shouldn't bother anyone.
- Nothing's happening.
- Those are his own things.
- That he is in the best moment of his life.
- There are people who are worse off.
- Saying those things to me is going to kill me.
- You're going to kill your father with your things.
- You're just causing trouble.
