What is the Libera-Care Standard?

It is an initiative of the Dignified Care Foundation , which arose from the concern of a group of healthcare professionals regarding the excessive use of restraints in Spain and the desire to promote a new paradigm of individualized, motivating and restraint-free care.

The standard provides the rules to be followed to ensure rigorous management of restrictive restraints (physical and chemical) and the possibility of their elimination (without abandoning the safety of the person being cared for).

This paradigm shift also responds to the preamble of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities . In it, the signatory States agreed on a series of principles such as respect for human dignity, autonomy, and participation.
