Depressive disorders

To what extent should I intervene if a teenager with depression has a very messy and dirty room?

The loss of routines, such as a lack of hygiene, or demotivation or neglect, which could be reflected in a messy room, can be another symptom of a depressive state.

An effort should be made to find a balance between establishing basic healthy habits, without pressure, demands, or punishments, and providing the affection, motivation, and support that allows the teenager to do so. It sounds easy, but it can be difficult to put into practice. This doesn't mean that the adult has to take on the responsibility of cleaning or tidying the teenager's room, but rather that they can help and support them so they can do it themselves.

If we think about the teenager (depressed or not) who spends most of his time in his room, it will be beneficial for this space to be a pleasant and comfortable environment.
