What doubts or emotions might my child have regarding my psychotic disorder?

  • They are afraid of developing the mental disorder because they do not know its causes.
  • Feeling stigmatized and afraid that classmates will leave them out at school because they have a parent with a mental health disorder.
  • To fear that there will come a time when they can no longer enjoy the company of their father or mother.
  • Feeling guilty, in case they are the cause of the disorder.
  • They feel conflicted, as they sometimes perceive that they must have opposite roles: at school they act like children and at home they are required to behave as if they were older.
  • Being afraid that if close people do not take care of the mother or father, they may get worse or even die.
