Binge eating disorder

What is binge eating disorder?

Binge eating disorder is an eating disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating , similar to bulimia nervosa, but without subsequent compensatory mechanisms such as vomiting or laxative use. Therefore, over time, the affected person tends to become overweight or obese.

Many people with binge eating disorder use food as a way to cope with negative emotions and feelings, finding that eating comforts and calms them in anxious situations. However, they often end up feeling sad and guilty for not being able to control their eating, which increases stress, and so the cycle continues.
