At what age and how is it appropriate for children to start using screens?
The WHO provides recommendations on screen use in childhood:
- Children under one year old: It is not recommended that they spend time in front of screens.
- From 1 to 2 years: It is not recommended that they spend time in sedentary activities in front of a screen (such as watching television or videos or playing games on screens).
- 2 years: Time spent on sedentary activities in front of a screen should not exceed one hour; and the less, the better.
- From 3 to 4 years old : screen time should also not exceed one hour.
It is recommended to replace the time children spend alone in front of a screen with more active and shared games.
