Should I let my teenage son sleep with his mobile phone?
Each family needs to establish boundaries that are negotiated jointly and adapted to their specific circumstances. That said, sleeping with your phone in the bedroom is probably not the best idea , since having a phone in the bedroom often means not getting enough rest (going to bed later than you should, going to sleep checking the latest notification, waking up to a new notification, looking at your phone in the middle of the night, etc.), and childhood and adolescence are stages where rest is vitally important. It's advisable to address this from the beginning, because as they get older, it becomes more difficult to manage. Some teenagers will tell us they need their phone in the bedroom to set their alarm for school, but even if they don't believe it, there are alternatives, such as turning off the phone but leaving it set to sound the alarm, or buying an analog alarm clock. The phone should not be the last thing you look at before closing your eyes and the first thing you look at when you open them.
