Is it possible to have hallucinations or delusions without having psychosis?

Over the past thirty years, researchers have studied whether the symptoms of psychosis can exist in other conditions besides mental disorders, as has been observed in other disorders such as depression. The results indicate that psychotic experiences are common in the general population and their presence is not necessarily associated with having a mental disorder.

Experiencing hallucinations or delusions is much more common than initially thought. Not everyone who experiences them will develop a psychotic disorder. Even so, it's important to note whether these experiences occur frequently and, above all, whether they cause distress and difficulties in daily life. In this case, seeking professional help is highly recommended, since psychotic disorders often have a good prognosis if treated early.
