Can video game addiction be treated with drugs?

There is currently no drug indicated for the treatment of video gaming disorder. However, video gaming disorder can cause symptoms such as impulsivity or irritability that affect other areas of functioning and that can improve with medication, which helps to achieve an overall improvement. In addition, video gaming disorder can usually occur together with other mental disorders (comorbidity), such as depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD or ASD. In some of these cases, specific pharmacological treatment for the comorbid disorder may be indicated, which can have a positive impact on video gaming disorder.
