Can a child with a psychotic disorder go to school or high school?
Yes, they can go to school, high school and even university, but they may need some adaptations to the curriculum (content and procedures) or some help in order to continue their studies normally.
The symptoms of psychotic disorders can affect the child's social relationships (it should be considered to adapt the relational dynamics) and also cognitive performance (memory, attentional difficulties, etc.). In addition, the person often needs to receive specific treatment (in a day hospital a few days a week, for example), which causes them to lose continuity in classes and relationships with peers.
The magnitude of these adaptations will be related to the severity of the symptoms, the degree to which they affect the child's functioning and the phase in which they are (acute, stable, etc.)
