Are people with a mental disorder social misfits?
People with mental health disorders are not solitary individuals, withdrawn into their own world, showing no interest in the social environment, and maintaining an attitude of social isolation. On the contrary, having a good social network—professional, familial, with friends, with a partner, etc.—predicts a better outcome and is a protective factor against relapse. People with mental health disorders can perfectly well live in society if they have the necessary support and resources to lead independent and autonomous lives.
