What are the main challenges faced by a person with autism when they reach adulthood?
Adulthood is a time of change and uncertainty. Decisions must be made regarding studies, career, relationships, and new roles (such as potential parenthood or caring for elderly relatives). All of this presents a challenge. These changes can be stressful for anyone, but they are often even more so for a person with autism, given the significant uncertainty involved and the lack of a single way to cope.
There are various challenges. For example, living independently from your parents, while challenging for anyone, can be even more difficult for a person with autism, as it is, by definition, a new life situation, which can lead to feelings of uncertainty and anxiety. Similarly, we could say the same about the working world: finding and keeping a job can be complicated due to our unique way of communicating and interacting with others.
