Conflicts between family members can be common in both autistic and non-autistic individuals, if only due to generational differences. Furthermore, there are more sensitive periods, such as adolescence, when young people are undergoing rapid development and beginning to form their personalities.

It's worth noting that studies describe emotional empathy as present in autism, but cognitive empathy may be difficult to manage. However, each person with ASD may have different levels of empathy, just as there may be differences within the non-autistic population.

In any conflict, the first step is for both parties to be willing to understand each other and to reach a consensus on solutions or points of convergence that are satisfactory to both parties.
