Various professionals specializing in homelessness and Housing First will explain the characteristics of these projects, their strengths, future opportunities, and the impact these programs have had on the mental health of the beneficiaries. We will also hear a first-hand account of someone's experience participating in a Housing First project.
Are you a professional in the social, health or mental health field, if someone you know is experiencing homelessness, or if you are interested in learning more about Housing First projects?
The Housing First model originated in the United States in the 1990s as a program specifically designed for homeless individuals who had not found success in other housing projects. These individuals typically have a long history of homelessness, mental health issues (with or without professional support), or substance abuse.
Prolonged homelessness can lead to physical and mental health problems, and safe and private environments are needed to address these issues.
Housing First programs offer these individuals stable housing and professional support so that they can remain in their homes and undergo the best possible recovery process, based on each person's strengths, resilience, and the possibility of developing new, meaningful social roles.
Depending on the context or the specific population, the composition of the professional support teams and some of the characteristics of these projects may vary. In this webinar, we will share different Housing First experiences.
