What was the first thing you thought when we asked you to collaborate on this project?

"The first thing I felt was a great sense of excitement, because I believe that bullying and cyberbullying are very important issues. And as a father, I've also felt the need to address the topic at some point in raising my children. Because it's not just an issue related to young people, but rather it involves a whole ecosystem that includes families, boys and girls, education professionals, and it needs to be understood and addressed from this holistic perspective."

What has participating in the #NoToCyberbullying campaign meant for you as a professional and as a person?

"For me, it has been primarily a learning experience because it has allowed me to delve deeper into this topic and get a sense of what is happening today. Often you don't have the opportunity to connect with young people who can tell you what's going on, and in this project I've been able to do just that. Especially with the focus group we did at the beginning with young people who had experience with the issue, whether as bullies or victims. It was a wonderful experience, because of the opportunity to listen to them and learn from them. Listening to them was a gift."

Since I work in communication through drawings, telling stories through drawings, I believe this point of reality is very important, that projects start from the truth you hear from the protagonists themselves."

El ciberbullying es el bullying amplificado

How has your view of cyberbullying changed before and after participating in the campaign?

"Things have changed in many ways because, due to my age, I haven't personally experienced cyberbullying , although I have been harassed on social media. So, with this project, I've connected with aspects related to the current world of young people and their environment. I think it's very important to address this issue because they spend half their time, or more, in the digital world, although this is also a reflection of what happens outside the virtual space, because in some way everything is very intertwined. Bullying doesn't end at school, nor does cyberbullying end on a mobile phone; they are completely interconnected. School bullying has become an even more complex phenomenon than it used to be."

What messages have you tried to convey with the cartoons?

"My main task has been to translate the main messages of the campaign into drawings and generate images that can have an impact on a social network, where things have a lot of impact, but are read quickly.

There were messages that were more descriptive, about understanding the phenomenon of cyberbullying ; others that were more about identifying with the situation presented; and others that were more about resolution, about what to do.

I think the three areas are well balanced, and that's why I'm happy with the outcome of the campaign. It offers many perspectives, and I think we've gone into considerable depth on the subject.

What would you like to see happen with this campaign?

“I would like it to generate more empathy. Often, bullying occurs because adolescents prioritize belonging to the group of those in power, the group of the ‘important,’ and they forget about empathy. I would like to see a shift in awareness among young people, but also for education professionals, including families, to become aware of the issue and how to proceed. Because I believe there is an important role for adults. Young people will eventually change; they come into this world, grow up, and develop, and perhaps in a few years they will understand things differently than they do now. But the resources generated by the campaign, both the comics and the escape room ‘The Silence of the Mirror , ’ aimed at schools, will continue to be a valid and necessary resource for raising awareness about this issue.”
